Curious Nature of Social Norms

Social Norms are the rules that guide and constrain behaviours within any culture and society and both stem from and control what is appropriate behaviour within that environment.

Social Norms create the common foundation that assist the group/society/community to run more smoothly, to preserve harmony within and to create systems and structures that operates the day-to-day and the longterm plans of the group/society/community.

Social Norms also protect the hierarchical structure of the group/society/community and naturally, the status of certain positions and individuals within that group.

Social Norms increase predictability and decrease uncertatinty within the group/society/community.

Failure to socialize leads to the disintegration of such social norms.
